Beware it’s a scam!
If you receive a call from someone saying they are from National Grid, and you have not paid your bill, please hang up and dial National Grid to inquire if it is true or not. If you have caller ID the number that shows up is ‘National Grid’ but DON’T believe it. It’s a scam!
We just received a call from someone saying he was from National Grid and that the power to the Management Office was going to be interrupted in the next hour, as we had not paid our bill for two months. We were given the number to call the billing department, and told to speak with Mason Branch. Mason Branch insisted that we would have to pay up front to keep the power on, or pay CASH at one of their “locations”. Daniela transferred the call to me, and while I was speaking to him, she called National Grid to confirm that all of our accounts were up to date. They confirmed we have no outstanding balances! When I started asking the scam artist where they were located and where I would have to go to pay him, he hung up on me.
The person that called, Mason Branch, claimed to be from the National Grid Management Support Office. The number he gave us was: 1-844-227-4559.
Please beware and do not give out your personal information or any payment information over the phone. National Grid will never call and demand payment from you. If you receive one of these calls, hang up, and call the customer service number to National Grid, which is 1-800-322-3223.
We were told by National Grid to file a report with the police which we have done.
The Bristol Police Department informed us that there is a similar phone scam in which one claims to be from the IRS and demands payment, threatening arrest if one does not comply. Please note that the IRS will never call and demand payment, and that no personal information should ever be given over the phone to such companies.
